dr hab. Marcin Wrzosek, prof. UPWr, Dipl. ECVN

A 2002 graduate of the University of Agriculture in Wrocław, he defended his PhD dissertation in 2009 on “The use of electroencephalography in the diagnosis of CNS diseases in cats.”

After completing a neurology and neurosurgery residency at Tierspital Bern in Switzerland in 2011 and passing the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS®) exam, he obtained the title of Certified Diplomate at the European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN).

In 2017, he completed his habilitation on the use of electroencephalography in CNS diseases in dogs. He has supervised six PhD theses in the field of veterinary neurology.

Throughout his career, he has completed clinical neurology and neurosurgery internships in Raleigh, Davis, and Stanford (USA), Helsinki (Finland), Hanover (Germany), Milan, and Bologna (Italy).

Since 2015, Chair of the Neurology Section of the Polish Small Animal Veterinary Association (PSLWMZ).

Since 2022, Secretary of the Board of the European Society of Veterinary Neurology (ESVN).

Since 2023, National Consultant in Canine and Feline Neurology.

Member of the German-speaking veterinary neurology organization Tierneurologen.

Lecturer at the European School for Advanced Veterinary Studies (ESAVS) and workshops on veterinary neurosurgery at the Aeskulap Academy Foundation.

Currently, he works as a professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences and is the owner of NeuroTeam, a specialist veterinary clinic in Wrocław, where he provides neurology consultations and advanced neurosurgical procedures.

He is the author of numerous publications, lectures, book chapters, and training courses in veterinary neurology, neuroradiology, and neurosurgery.

dr Ines Carrera, Vet Oracle Teleradiology, UK

Dr. Ines Carrera completed an imaging diagnostics internship at the University of Glasgow, where she developed a passion for neuroimaging.

In 2010, she obtained her radiology certification (DipECVDI) and spent a total of seven years working at several universities, including Illinois (USA), Sydney (Australia), and Zurich (Switzerland).

For the next five years, she worked in private practice in the United Kingdom (SCVS and Willows).

She is currently part of VetOracle, where she specializes in neuroimaging, collaborating with Laurent Garosi and Simon Platt.

Dr. Carrera has conducted extensive research, earned a PhD, and is the author of numerous peer-reviewed journal articles.

 

dr Aleksandra Rawicka, Dipl. ECVO, Poland

A European Specialist in Veterinary Ophthalmology (Dipl. ECVO), she is associated with the renowned SeeVet clinic in Rome and is currently based primarily at VetClinic and Klinika Braci Mniejszych in Łódź, Poland.

She began her educational journey at the University of Warmia and Mazury and later honed her skills abroad, completing internships in the United Kingdom and Italy.

A key milestone in her career was completing a three-year residency at the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ECVO) under the mentorship of Nunzio D’Anna at Policlinico Veterinario Roma Sud—one of Italy’s leading specialist clinics. There, she deepened her expertise in ophthalmology, participated in innovative surgical procedures, and engaged in scientific projects that led to publications in international journals.

She is an active participant in conferences and courses across Europe and the United States and the author of scientific articles published in international journals.

 

prof. Martin Schmidt, Dipl. ECVN

A graduate of the Study of Veterinary Medicine at Justus-Liebig-University (JLU), Giessen, he obtained his Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Neurology in 2009. In 2013, he defended his habilitation thesis in veterinary neurology, neurosurgery, and neuroradiology, earning the title of “venia legendi.”

His habilitation dissertation was titled:

“Morphometric analysis of the skull and central nervous system of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels – A review of the pathogenesis of Chiari-like malformation.”

Prof. Veronika Stein, Dipl. ECVN,
Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern, Switzerland

Being a graduate of the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (TiHo Hannover), Germany, she completed her doctoral dissertation (Dr. med. vet.) in 2001 on veterinary neurology at the Department for Small Animal Medicine and Surgery, TiHo Hannover.

In 2002 she started a combined PhD and ECVN residency program at the Department for Small Animal Medicine and Surgery, TiHo Hannover. In 2004, she obtained a PhD in Neurosciences from the TiHo Hannover and after passing the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS®) exam,s he obtained the title of a Certified Diplomate at the European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN).

After a 1.5 year Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA she returned to the TiHo Hannover, Germany to complete her habilitation in 2011 in Neurology.

She became a Professor in Neurology and head of the Division of Neurology at the Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern, Switzerland in 2016. She has supervised several ECVN residencies, doctoral theses, and PhD theses.

Since 2017 she is the program director for Neurology of the European School of Advanced Veterinary Studies (ESAVS) and is a lecturer at various workshops, symposia, and congresses.

From 2011 to 2024, she was actively involved in the Executive Committee of the European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN), most recently serving as ECVN President and Past President.

She is actively involved in research, teaching, and clinical neurology, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and spinal cord injury in dogs and cats. She has authored numerous publications, book chapters, and lectures on veterinary neurology, neuroradiology, and neurosurgery.

DMV Wiktor Turek

A specialist in radiology and lecturer in postgraduate specialization studies in veterinary diagnostic imaging. Former academic teacher at the University Centre of Veterinary Medicine UR in Kraków.

After completing his studies, he undertook an internship at Northwest Surgeons, a referral hospital in England, where he trained under specialists from around the world, focusing on diagnostic imaging.

He has completed numerous internships at university radiology and neurology departments, including Bern (Switzerland) and Glasgow (Scotland), as well as specialized training in radiology, neurology, and neurosurgery in Milan and Bologna (Italy), Luxembourg, and Bern.

In 2022, he began certified postgraduate studies (CASVM in Diagnostic Imaging) in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging at the University of Luxembourg.

PhD Paulina Drobot

A graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Wrocław, she developed an interest in veterinary neurologyduring her studies while attending the elective course “Neurology and Clinical Neuropathology.”

In 2016, she began a scientific research project focusing on volumetric brain analysis in dogs with idiopathic epilepsy.

After obtaining her veterinary degree, she started clinical work at the Neurology Clinic of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, where she consulted on even the most challenging cases.

In 2018, she began her PhD studies, researching:

“Assessment of the correlation between volumetric brain measurements in MRI scans and electroencephalographic findings in dogs with idiopathic epilepsy.”

She is a member of the European Society of Veterinary Neurology.

In 2018, she completed a course in neuroimaging (CT and MRI) in Bologna, Italy.

For several years, she has been actively evaluating and interpreting MRI scans of neurological patients.

In her free time, she enjoys exploring new places and walking with her dog, Melon.

DVM Laura Brewińska

A veterinarian and ECVN Resident, she graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW).

During her studies, she developed a strong interest in veterinary neurology and has since co-authored scientific publications, including:

“Surgical treatment of post-traumatic luxation of rib heads with spinal cord compression in a cat” (Acta Veterinaria Scandinavica).

Multiple scientific papers presented at national and international conferences.

In 2018, she completed the “Brain Camp – Veterinary Advanced Diagnostic Imaging Course and Veterinary Neuroscience Advanced Course” in Bologna, Italy. She has also completed internships at the University of Zurich and the University of Wrocław, training under ECVN-certified specialists, as well as at several specialist veterinary clinics in Warsaw.

Advanced imaging techniques in canine epilepsy, including the use of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and Arterial Spin Labeling (ASL) to locate epileptogenic foci in temporal lobe epilepsy—a model for human epilepsy research.

DVM Aleksandra Banasik

A 2021 graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences (UPWr).

During her studies, she completed numerous internships in Poland and international placements in Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and Germany. She actively participates in trainings and congresses.

As a student, she was heavily involved in scientific research, presenting her work at conferences, including studies on veterinary neurology related to the correlation between diffusion tensor MRI parameters, clinical symptoms, and the radiological severity of spinal cord diseases in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

Since 2021, she has been a PhD student at the UPWr Doctoral School, conducting research for her dissertation on the development of a hybrid diagnostic protocol for metabolic activity, structural changes, and functional brain alterations in a canine model of spontaneous temporal lobe epilepsy.

In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis and skiing in the winter.

DVM Tomasz Serzysko, FCert(E&CC)

He graduated in 2022 with a veterinary degree from the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn.

During his studies, he completed annual clinical internships in Poland and France and actively participated in conferences, workshops, and training programs, primarily focusing on internal medicine and neurology.

He is the co-author of two peer-reviewed publications on neuroembryology.

Immediately after graduation, he joined the NeuroTeam Veterinary Clinic in Wrocław, where he specialized in neurology consultations for patients with nervous system disorders.

Later, he shifted his focus towards diagnostic imaging, dedicating himself entirely to neuroradiology.

Current Work

He now collaborates with diagnostic imaging laboratories across Poland, providing interpretation of MRI and CT scans of the nervous system as well as neurological diagnostics.

In 2024, he obtained the Foundation Certificate in Emergency and Critical Care, awarded by the International School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies.

Besides neuroradiology, his professional interests include internal medicine and emergency and critical care medicine.

PhD Ewa Stańczyk

A graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, where she also completed her PhD studies, earning her Doctor of Veterinary Sciences degree in 2013.

In 2014, she began working at the Diagnostic Imaging Clinic of the University Animal Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland, as a resident under the supervision of Prof. Patrick Kircher.

After completing her residency, she passed the diplomate exam in February 2019, obtaining the title of EBVS® European Specialist in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging.

Current Work

Since April 2019, she has been working as a radiology consultant at VetCT Specialists Ltd, interpreting CT, MRI, and radiographic studies for universities and animal hospitals worldwide.

She is also a veterinary radiology specialist and co-instructor for ultrasound courses at the European School of Advanced Veterinary Studies (ESAVS).

DVM Olga Gajos

A 2018 graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn.

After graduation, she began working at the Gliwice Veterinary Clinic, initially focusing on internal medicine and emergency cases during night shifts. Early on, her interest shifted toward veterinary neurology, and she has since been continuously expanding her expertise in this field.
